Frans-Willem Verbaas

 

Frans Willem Verbaas is an immigration law attorney specializing in asylum law, other types of residence permits and aliens detention. He specializes in, among other things, asylum applications from converts and detention conditions of aliens who are detained in the Netherlands for deportation.

He is a member of the Association of Asylum Lawyers and Lawyers in the Netherlands and a member of the Netherlands Jurists Committee for Human Rights (NJCM). He does his work out of idealism, and he litigated, among other things, about hunger strikers in isolation cells, ventilation problems in Detention Center Kamp Zeist and a photo report for Vrij Nederland about the detention centers.

He publishes articles in newspapers and trade journals on various topics in his field, and wrote a book on asylum policy (‘Er is now no land’, Arbeiderspers 2005). He also gives courses to lawyers and gives lectures on asylum policy and immigration detention.

mr. Verbaas has registered the following main (and sub) areas of law in the register of legal areas of the Netherlands Bar:

  • Asylum and Refugee Law
  • Immigration law (immigration detention)

On the basis of this registration, he is obliged to obtain ten training points each calendar year in each registered principal area of ​​law in accordance with the standards of the Netherlands Bar.
